Rayagada, Dec 02: As many as 10 child labourers were rescued from unsafe places in the tribal-dominated district Rayagada by the State Child Protection Council (SCPC).
The children were rescued during a visit of SCPC representative Rajendra Meher to various localities in Rayagada municipal area.
Meher visited various blocks on Saturday to take stock of the facilities being provided to the state-run destitute homes, residential schools and anganwadi centres.
He also conducted a camp court there directing police to arrest the culprits for sexually abusing the orphan girls.
As per 2011 census, there were 19,266 child labourers in the district. Among them 2,066 child labourers were rescued and enrolled in various schools, Meher said adding that whereabouts of the rest of the child labourers are not known. He directed the district administration to trace them as soon as possible.
