Russian Tourist detained for Taking Pics of Jagannath Temple

Puri, Dec 05: A Russian tourist was detained by the police in Puri for taking photographs of Shree Jagannath temple by climbing a watchtower near the shrine today. He was identified as Ivanov Sergei.

He was detained at the office of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). He was caught after a sevayat saw him atop the watchtower clicking photographs. The sevayat informed the police, who immediately detained the tourist and handed him over to the temple administration.

When asked about taking pictures of the temple, Ivanov said, "I never knew that photography of the temple is prohibited. There is no signboard and I had no knowledge about it".

He was asked to hand over his camera and other equipments, but he refused to give.
