Barabati Land Encroachment: OOA Office Premises raided in Cuttack

Cuttack, Dec 06: Odisha crime branch sleuths on Saturday raided the office premises of the Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) here in connection with alleged irregularities in the association and the land encroachment near Barabati stadium.

A 20-member team of the Crime Branch police led by SP Rajendra Patnaik examined the documents of the Football Association of Odisha (FAO), Barabati Palace and OOA.

Ashirbad Behera, OOA general secretary was present at the office along with other officials of the association and the FAO during the raid.

The crime branch under the supervision of a DSP yesterday had examined the documents related to the land encroachments seized from the OOA by the Cuttack tehsildar, who had taken possession of the land and properties encroached by the OOA near Barabati Stadium. The land was allegedly used for commercial purposes.

The OOA had allegedly occupied the land for last 30 years and had been running businesses constructing several shops and a marriage mandap called Barabati palace on it.

The OOA, which had got 20 acres of government land on lease for construction of Barabati Stadium in 1949, subsequently encroached upon two acres of adjacent vacant government land in mid-70s.

The tehsildar had taken the control over the land and properties on Sunday on the order by the Orissa High Court last week.
