AT Scam: Bail Plea of Pravat Tripathy rejected

Bhubaneswar, Dec 08: In a huge setback to Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy, the Khordha district and sessions court on Monday rejected his bail application in the chit fund scam. The suspended BJD MLA is currently lodged in Jharapada jail after his arrest.

Earlier, the court had completed the hearing on Tripathy's bail plea on Dec 2, but reserved its verdict fixing Dec 8 for pronouncing the final verdict on the bail application.

The CBI had argued against his plea in the court stating he could tamper with the evidence and influence witnesses as he is a political leader if granted the bail.

The legislator was arrested by the CBI for his alleged links with the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group, a major player in the chit fund scam in Odisha.

Tripathy had approached the Khordha district and sessions court seeking bail after the special CBI court had rejected Tripathy's bail plea on Nov 13 and sent him to jail.
