J&K registers 58%, Jharkhand 61% in 3rd Phase Polling


Ranchi/Srinagar: The polling in the third phase of assembly elections in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir ended peacefully on Tuesday. While Jharkhand recorded 61% voter turnout, 58% was registered in J&K, comparatively low turnout to the first and second phase of voting in the state.

The polling began for 17 Assembly constituencies and 16 seats for Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir respectively amid tight security.

Despite boycott calls and militants threats, the Kashmiri people were seen in long ques today to franchise their votes in the polling stations. Even undeterred by militant attack on Friday, voters throng poll station in Uri in large numbers. The polling was held in 16 seats spread across Budgam, Pulwama and Baramulla districts.

In Jharkhand, Police today recovered bombs during an encounter with Maoists, from poll bound constituency of Dhanwar in Giridih.
