Chit Fund Scam: Two Health Dept Officials appear before CBI

Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: Two officials of Health and Family Welfare department appeared before the CBI here on Thursday in connection with the chit fund scam.

The two section officers arrived at the CBI office with few documents related to the department's connection with the chit fund firm Seashore Group.

The officials are likely to be asked about the MoUs signed with the Seashore Group.

It can be noted that Seashore Group was managing seven primary health centres in the state. The firm had signed MoUs with the National Rural Health Missions (NRHM) to provide healthcare in the backward areas of the state under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes.

The Group was managing the primary health centres in Cuttack (3), Kendrapada (1) and Balasore district (2). The firm was also running canteens in some hospitals after its tourism wing signed agreements with the health department.

Besides these, the firm was operating an eye hospital, and an ayurvedic hospital. It was also given permission by the state government to manufacture several drugs and medicines and supply to the hospitals in the state.
