Odia Actress Gloria Mohanty No More


Cuttack, Dec 12: Odia film industry lost another veteran actress this week after Mamina with the demise of Gloria Mohanty, an eminent actress and Odissi dancer. She passed away yesterday evening at a hospital in Cuttack. She was 83. This is fourth loss in less than two months after Runu, Biren Routray, and Mamina left the world.

Born in 1932 in Cuttack, Gloria Mohanty was passionate about music and dance when she was child. She was the disciple of Odissi legend Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She has acted in more than a dozens of films. She made her first debut in Odia film in 1050 with the film "Sri Jagannath" as Lalita opposite Gopal Ghose.

That film brought a fame for her and paved a way in the industry for playing different characters. She received much applause for her roles in the films like "Kedar Gouri", "Maa", "Sitarati", "Taapoi", "Tapasya", "Ulka", "Janani", "Chhamana Athaguntha", "Adi Mimansa", "Sasughara Chalijibi".
