Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Odisha government has decided to take legitimate action against the Mahaveer Ashram, locally known as BJD MP Prasanna Patsani Mutt, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The BDA will take steps for the demolition of the structure, which has been built on the government land.
Sources said that a show cause notice has been served to Raghunath Dash, the owner of the Sevashram, by a local court asking him to file a counter by Dec 23.
The Sevashram was constructed encroaching the government land. This came to notice during an investigation by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) that stated that the land was encroached by Baba Raghunath Dash, who is the caretaker of the ashram.
The ashram situated in front of Jaydev Batika in Ghatikia has two buildings, one Hanuman temple and another building for the guests and people of Patsani. Baba is said to be the owner of the controversial ashram, while the management part of the ashram is in the hand of BJD MP Prasanna Patsani. Therefore, no action could be taken against the ashram for the government land encroachment due to the influence of the political leader.
The BDA Enforcement Squad on Monday had submitted its report to the BDA vice chairman. After the reports were carried by the several newspapers, the state government finally has decided to take action.
Meanwhile, the BDA has also served a show cause notice to another ashram Baikuntha Dham, located near Mahaveer Sevashram, for demolition a part of its premises. The notice has been served to the mutt chief Kasinath Mishra and Pandav Kumar Parida.
