Maoist Camps destroyed in Bhawanipatna

Bhawanipatna, Dec 17: The security forces on Wednesday destroyed four Naxal camps in the Telan forested area in Kalahandi district in a combing operation. However, no casualty has been reported from both the sides.

Police recovered 18 rounds of live ammunition, kit bags, Naxal literature, solar panels, uniforms, batteries and radio sets from these camps. Following the heavy exchange of fire between the Naxals and security forces, the red rebels fled the camps.

Talking to media, Yeswant Jethwa, IG, South Western range, told that the Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist) Jampha, who hails from Warangal district in Andhra Pradesh and carries a reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head, managed to escape unhurt along with around forty of his cadres.

The combing operations intensified in the area with the deployment of COBRA battalion of the CRPF after police received intelligence inputs that the Naxals have set up their camps in the Telan area bordering the districts of Kandhamal and Rayagada.
