Convoy of Navjot Singh Sidhu attacked in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 18: The convoy of BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was attacked with stones by unidentified assailants on Thursday during an election campaign for the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. He escaped unhurt. However, his driver was injured.

The assailants pelted the bricks and stones at Bhor camp on the outskirts of Jammu city, police said. The attackers were annoyed with Sidhu over his recent remark on their religious book, police said, adding, two persons have been detained in this connection.

The incident took place when Sidhu was campaigning in the Bhor camp area for the party candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment, Kavinder Gupta. The vehicle has been badly damaged and his driver Parveen Singh was injured in the incident. He was admitted to a hospital.
BJP spokesperson and war room incharge Arun Gupta blamed the Congress for the attack saying, "The attackers were supporters of local Congress MLA who is frustrated with the possible poll outcome. They were raising slogans in favour of the Congress MLA".

The last phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir ends on Saturday. Results will be declared on Tuesday.
