Ponzi Scam: CBI Officer meets Odisha Cops, More Top Guns may be Involved

Bhubaneswar, Dec 22: The arrival of CBI joint director (Kolkota Zone) Ms. Suman Bala Sahoo and her meeting with Odisha's top police officers in an ongoing investigation into the chit fund scam can suggest some big fish could be in its net.

Ms Sahoo accompanied by SP MK Sinha held meeting with Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik and additional DGP, Crime Branch Bijay Kumar Sharma on Monday in Cuttack to discuss the progress of probe into the ponzi scam.

Meanwhile, the CBI SIT DIG S Bagchi also arrived at the CBI SIT office here at around 11.05 am, about half an hour after the joint director reached the CBI office. However, he did not accompany Ms Sahoo. Both the top officers have come to Odisha capital to review the progress of the case.

There are speculations that the Crime Branch that was probing the ponzi case before the CBI in Odisha may try to protect some officials allegedly involved in the scam after the arrest of former crime branch DSP Pramod Panda. He was arrested last week for his alleged links with the AT Group.

On the other hand, two IPS officers north-central DIG Rajesh Kumar and Kendarapara SP Satish Gajbhiye have already been questioned by the CBI in connection with the chit fund scam on the basis of the diaries seized from the residence of Subhankar Nayak, the middleman of the Seashore Group, that disclosed the close links between the police officers and chit fund firms.
