Modi visits Varanasi, nominates Nine to join Swachh Bharat Mission

Varanasi, Dec 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi from where he went to Assi Ghat to inspect cleanliness programme started by him during his previous visit to Varanasi. He invited nine people to join the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched on Oct 2.

Modi nominated Nagaland Governor, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, Anchor Sonal Man Singh, Comedian Kapil Sharma, cricketer Saurav Ganguly, ETV group of Andhra Pradesh and Ramoji Rao, Arun Purie and India Today group, Mumbai Dabba wallas, and ICAI for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

This is the second visit to the city and conducted an inspection at Assi Ghat. He said that the entire nation has responded to the "Swachh Bharat" call, expressing his special thanks to the people of Varanasi and voluntary organisations for bringing back the beauty of the ghat.

Prior to his visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, Modi visited the residence of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and greeted him on his birth anniversary. The veteran turned 90 today. Modi is celebrating his mentor's birthday as the Good Governance Day. The government has conferred Bharat Ratna to Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malaviya.

After reaching Varanasi today, Modi paid floral tribute to the educationist Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya on his birthday. He will attend a number of programmes on the occasion of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 90th birthday.
