BJD MP Pratyusha in Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence

Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: BJD MP Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh from Kandhamal constituency, who is in controversy for her alleged Nepali citizenship, was inducted to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence.

Pratyusha was earlier served two notices from Orissa High Court for contesting the polls in the state since she is foreign national born in Nepal. She was elected from Kandhamal in the bypoll following the death of her husband Hemendra Chandra Singh, who was the MP in the constituency earlier. His untimely demise in October resulted in the by-election in the constituency, which was now occupied by Pratyusha on BJD ticket. She defeated the BJP candidate Rudramadhab Ray.

The high court has also issued notices to the Union Home Secretary, Election Commission of India, and Collectors of Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts apart from the MP over the election.
