Samba sector, Jan 03: One woman was killed and six others were wounded in fresh firing by Pakistan that targeted the BSF posts and villages along the international border in Hiranagar sector on Saturday afternoon.

The fresh firing took place soon after three Pakistan Rangers were killed in a strong retaliation from India.

Pakistan on Friday night had resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing on several BSF posts along the border in Hiranagar and Samba sectors of Kathua and Jammu districts at around 9.30pm. India in its response fired on the Pak troops killing three today.

The ceasefire violations started on New Year eve in which a BSF jawan, seven others were injured and five Pakistani rangers have been killed so far till Friday.

"BSF troops gave a befitting reply resulting in exchanges which stopped at 3 am in the morning," Inspector General of BSF Rakesh Sharma said, adding that Pakistan again started mortar shelling and firing targeting civilian areas since 7am and it is going on intermittently.

He said that all BoPs in three battalion areas of Samba and Hiranagar sub-sectors in Kathua district were targeted.
