Naveen announces Shelter Security Mission in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 06: Odisha chief minister on Tuesday announced "Shelter Security Mission" under which all the poor people of both urban and rural areas in the state would get house at cheaper rate.

The Biju Pucca Ghar scheme will provide the house to the poor families in the name of women of the household. The annual budget for the scheme will be substantially enhanced from Rs 330 crore to around Rs 3000 crore in a phased manner.

The mission was announced while inaugurating the two-day collectors' conference here at the State Secretariat. Patnaik said that the government will spend Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore to convert all the kutcha houses into pucca under the "Biju Pucca Ghar" scheme within next five years.

He unveiled the foundation stone of Biju Pucca Ghar scheme in the inaugural session of the meeting as part of the election manifesto. He had announced the scheme in September.

Addressing the collectors on the occasion, he asked them to work for the interest of people. He said that he would monitor the progress of the work at the end of every month discussing with the district collectors through video conferencing.

It can be noted that the existing "Mo Kudia" scheme, which was announced earlier during the annual budget, is merged with the new scheme.
