Odisha Chit Fund Scam: Bail Plea of Former AG Extended

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Giving a partial relief to former Advocate General of Odisha Ashok Mohanty in connection with the massive chit fund scam, the Special CBI court on Monday granted his extension of bail plea.

The court while hearing his extension of bail plea, asked Mohanty to appear on Feb 26. He appeared before the court today after getting summon.

This was his first appearance before he CBI special court after the preliminary chargesheet against AT Group was filed on Dec 11 last year. Besides Mohanty, 18 others in the AT chit fund scam currently lodged in Jharapada jail including Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy, Mumbai-based Model  Preeti Bhatia and Pramod Panda were produced before the court here today. They were asked to appear before the court on Feb 26.

However, AT Group CMD Pradeep Sethy was not produced in the court as he was taken on remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Earlier, Mohanty was granted bail on Sep 26 last year by the Khordha district and sessions court against a surety of Rs 1 lakh.
