Odia Actor Ashrumochan, Director Sudhakar Basant join BJP

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Politics is not everyone's cup of tea, but this has been an additional choice for many Ollywood faces in Odisha. Recently, Odia actor Ashrumochan Mohanty and Director Sudhakar Basant joined the BJP here today.

The duo joined the BJP in presence of senior party leaders Bijay Mohapatra and Prasanna Kumar Mishra.

This can be called Prime Minister Narendra Modi impact that is working here in Odisha.

Joining the saffron party, Ollywood actor Ashrumochan Mishra said, "I am convinced that BJP is doing great service in India and therefore I joined the party".

For Director Sudhakar Basant, this is the Modi factor that he joined the party. "I am inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's style of functioning. I want to do something for the state and nation. I think I can do something for the society by joining the BJP", he said.

The induction programme comes a day after former MLA Pratap Sarangi said that BJP would intensify its membership drive in Odisha from Jan 23, the birth anniversary of veteran Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, by involving 46,000 permanent members, party representatives and office bearers both at the booth and district level.

Odisha politics witnessed several Ollywood actors joining the political parties in the past few months. While Aparajita Mohanty and Bijay Mohanty contested the polls on Congress tickets and Papu from BJD, Mihir Das, Sritam Das, Pintu Nanda and Pinky Pradhan are among others who joined the saffron party before elections.
