Students forced to Work in Cotton Field in Rayagada

Rayagada, Jan 14: In a shocking incident, the students of a primary school in Rayagada were forced to work in a cotton field of their teacher instead of studies. Following the report, the local authorities rescued the children and handed over to their family members.

The locals demanded termination of the teacher, who had engaged the students in his cotton field, after the incident came to fore.

According to reports, Baburao Himirika, teacher of Matikana Primary School at Matikana village under Rayagada block had engaged 17 students including 14 girls students since three days to pluck the cotton in his field assuring them to pay Rs 100 as daily wage.

Acting on the report, the district Child Welfare Committee rescued the school children from the field yesterday. The district collector Sashibhusan Padhi has placed the teacher under suspension after the District Education Officer submitted a report on this matter.
