Harishankar Brahma appointed as next Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi, Jan 15: Harishankar Brahma, Union power secretary, was appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner succeeding VS Sampath, who retired today.

Brahma, 60, the 1975 IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, hails from Assam. He will assume the charge on Friday.
