Odisha Cabinet Decision on Mining Auction stayed

Cuttack, Jan 16: In a huge jolt to Odisha government, the High Court on Friday stayed the decision to auction all the mining blocks in the state till the further order. The next hearing will be on February 4 over this matter.

The court's directive came on a petition filed by five mining companies including Mesco, Kalinga Minerals and Om Minerals that had opposed the government's decision to auction all the mining blocks except coal mines.

The state government at a cabinet meeting on January 5 had decided for the auction of all the mining blocks including those were awaiting second and subsequent renewal except coal mines in the state, to generate revenue. However, the recent stay order granted by the high court on the auction of non-coal mines will result in huge loss for the government.
