Irregularities alleged in Road Work in Astarang, Probe Ordered

Astarang (Puri), Jan 17: The villagers in Astarang block alleged massive irregularities in the funds allotted for the road construction work in Alasahi. While lakhs of rupees are being spent on this head by the government, people are still deprived of good road and transport in the village.

Around Rs 18 lakh was sanctioned for the road works at Alasahi village under Astarang block in Puri district without any consent from the Palli Sabha (Village Meeting), the construction is now over, but the condition of the road is unchanged as it was damaged due to poor quality of work, alleged a villager, adding the politicians are monitoring the work instead of the engineer.

On the other hand, the villagers have been divided in two groups over the construction of work. While some people want the road works to continue, few have been opposing alleging irregularities in the funds.

Fearing the possible agitation in the village, the local authorities have put the work on hold and ordered the Assistant Engineer for a probe into the matter.
