Puri at Terror Target, Police Preparedness Remains Question

Puri, Jan 23: Following the warning of Intelligence Bureau (IB) about the possible terror strikes in four states including Odisha, the security has been tightened across the state. The 12th century world famous Jagannath temple in Puri, where lakhs of pilgrims used to come every day for the darshan of the Lords, is on high alert. However, the police preparedness still remains a question to foil the terror strikes in the town.

Even though, the security has been beefed up at the railway station and bus stand in the town, but the questions are still raised on the ability of police force to tackle such type of situation here.

The administration claimed that the security around the temple has been doubled. A 3-member team has been formed to conduct 24-hour patrolling at the sea beach and the main road has been sealed in view of the possible Jihadi attacks in the pilgrim town of the state, said Puri DSP Prabhat Routray.

However, inadequate training of the police personnel can hardly prevent any unwanted situation at the temple, which has always remained a soft target for the terror attacks.
