Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: The distribution of new digital ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will begin from Jan 28. Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik will launch the programme at a function tomorrow in Bhubaneswar.
The beneficiaries will get the new ration cards in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar block. Patnaik will attend the function at Manchnathdev High School ground in Chakeisiani.
A total of 1.86 lakh beneficiaries in BMC and Bhubaneswar block have been identified to get the cards under the National Food Security Act.
On the other hand, rest of the people of other districts can apply for the ration cards from tomorrow. The process of applying and indentifying the beneficiaries will end on August 15. The beneficiaries will get the food grains under the National Food Security Act from September this year. The government targets to enroll 3,26,41,800 crore, approximately 78% beneficiaries in the state under this new system by August 15.
It can be noted that the cards under BPL, APL and PLO schemes will be cancelled with the launch of the new digital cards under National Food Security Act.
