New Ration Cards under National Food Security Act launched in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 28: In a significant development, the new digitised ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) was rolled out in Odisha by chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday with the distribution of new cards to the beneficiaries at Chakeisihani in ward No 5 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Launching the scheme, Patnaik made it clear that Rs 1 per kg rice programme will continue along with this central scheme.

A total of 1.86 lakh beneficiaries in BMC and Bhubaneswar block have been identified to get the cards under the National Food Security Act in the first phase. All the eligible families will get the new ration cards in Bhubaneswar by March 31.

Meanwhile, the process for the cards in rest of the districts began today with the launch of the scheme. The target is to enroll 3, 26, 41,800 crore, approximately 78% beneficiaries in the state under this new system by August 15. The eligible people will get the food grains under this Act from September this year.
