AT Chit Fund Scam: Huge Relief to Ranjan Dash as HC grants him Bail

Cuttack, Jan 29: In a huge relief to chit fund accused Ranjan Dash, who is said to be suffering from cancer, the Orissa High Court on Thursday granted him conditional bail. He was directed to submit his passport before the CBI and furnish security amount for the release from jail.

Ranjan was arrested by the CBI for his alleged links with the chit fund firm Artha Tatwa Group and its CMD Pradeep Sethy.

It can be noted that Ranjan is diagnosed with cancer. Earlier, the Special CBI Court on January 20 had turned down the plea of Jaharpada Special Jail Superintendent on shifting of Ranjan Dash from Bhubaneswar to the Circle Jail at Choudwar for his treatment at Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital in Cuttack.

Superintendent of Jharpada jail Ravi Narayan Swain appealed to the court to shift Ranjan from Jharpada jail to Choudwar jail as the chit fund accused is frequently taken to Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital in Cuttack for his treatment.

Ranjan is believed to be close to Banki MLA Pravat Tripathy, who is currently lodged in Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar, in connection with the AT chit fund scam.
