India to host 2016 T20 World Cup

New Delhi, Jan 29: India will host the 2016 T20 World Cup, said the ICC during its first meeting of this year today here. The international cricket body announced that the next T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India from March 11 till April 3, 2016.

The inaugural T20 ICC World Cup was hosted in South Africa in 2007 where India emerged as the champion beating arch-rival Pakistan. In the next edition in 2009, Pakistan carried their good form to finish the tournament in style to take home the cup. The last edition was played in Bangladesh in 2014 where the island nation Sri Lanka defeated India to be the king of shorter formats.

The Board also took some other important decisions as they reinstated the use of a Super Over in the event of a tie in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Final.
