Paul van, Anthony Thornton New Coaches of Indian Hockey Teams

New Delhi, Jan 30: So finally Indian hockey teams will receive new coaches in the form of Paul van Ass and Anthony Thornton respectively. Former Dutch national coach Paul van Ass and Anthony Thornton of New Zealand are named as the new coaches of the Indian men's and women's hockey teams.

The names were finalised at a special selection committee meeting headed by secretary sports AjitSharan, Hockey India president Narinder Batra, high performance director Roelant Oltmansand Olympian Harbinder Singh.

As coach, Van Ass led the Netherlands to silver at the 2012 London Olympics and 2014 Hockey World Cup. He also served as the head coach of the Dutch Under-21 team. Van has come in place of former Indian coach Terry Walsh.

On the other hand Thornton has been working with the New South Wales Institute of Sports in Australia for four years and has also worked with the Australian U-21 men's team as their head coach.The former New Zealand star has represented his national side in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and will replace women coach Neil Hagwood.
