Explosion rocks Pakistan, 33 killed in Shia Mosque

News

Karachi, Jan 30: A powerful explosion in a Shia mosque rocked Pakistan killing at least 33 people including children during the Friday prayers. This is the deadliest attack in the beginning of this year, over a month after the barbaric massacre of children in an army school last year.

The minority Shia Muslim Imambargah in Lakhi Dar area of Shikarpur in Karachi was destroyed after the blast when the Muslim worshippers gathered during the prayer. At least 55 people were injured and many have been trapped under the debris.

No group has claimed the responsibility for the blast. However, this could be the action of Sunni Muslim groups, who often target the Shia community in the province.
