Anil Goswami sacked, LC Goyal appointed as New Home Secretary

New Delhi, Feb 05: Centre appointed LC Goyal as the new Union Home Secretary after firing Anil Goswami for his alleged interference in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam probe.

The sacking order was issued on Wednesday night after Goswami was summoned by the Prime Minister's Office for the explanation over the issue.

The 1979 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer LC Goyal currently is the secretary in the Union Ministry of Rural Development. Earlier, he had served in various departments like Ministry of Finance and Cabinet Secretariat.

The government realised that he is the perfect face to deal with the sensitive issues in the Home Ministry.

Goswami was fired from the job for allegedly putting pressure on the CBI that is probing the Saradha chit fund scam in West Bengal not to arrest Congress leader Matang Sinh in connection with the investigation.

Following the allegation, he was asked by the Home Ministry and the PMO why he interfered in the scam probe.
