Protests outside OERC Office against Steep Power Hike

Bhubaneswar, Feb 09: The public outrage outside Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) office against the steep power hike in the state disrupted the proceedings during a public hearing on Monday here.

Scores of agitating consumers stalled the proceeding demanding CAG audit of the private power distribution companies and continuous power tariff hike in Odisha. The protests forced the officials to defer the hearing.

The proposed power tariff hike was opposed by the members of Electricity Consumers Association of Odisha, BJP, Congress, Samajwadi Party and CPI, who demanded CAG audit of the private power distribution companies, revoke of electricity privatization, and reduction in electricity taxes.

The protesters expressed their outrage by entering into the regulatory office here and broke the office furniture against the proposed power hike.
