News

Jeypore, Feb 19: The displaced persons came out to road and protested demanding appropriate compensation and job after losing their land for Telengiri irrigation project in Koraput.

The protesters blocked the ongoing project and demanded job for each displaced family and enroll all the adults in the list of DP.

According to media reports, the government had allocated Rs 106 crore in 2003 for the mega irrigation project in Telengiri in Koraput district to provide jobs to all the villagers in the area. Even after 12 years, the project has not been completed yet. For this project, around 557 families of five villages in the area lost their land with a promise of appropriate compensation and rehabilitation.

However, the victims got nothing and getting a jon has been dream for the villagers.

The displaced people have been facing problems and it can be sorted out if the government intervenes in the matter, said Anil Panigrahi, the Executive Engineer of the project, to the Naxatra News.
