Rayagada DWO Suicide Case: Collector, ITDA Project Administrator transferred

Bhubaneswar, Feb 21: Under political pressure and huge uproar in the House over suicide case of Rayagada District Welfare Officer, the Odisha government transferred the district collector, and the Project Administrator of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency.

The action came after the opposition parties Congress and BJP disrupted the proceedings of the House demanding strong action against the officials who were responsible for the death of DWO Dhaneswar Prusty.

Even Congress called for a bandh in Rayagada and BJP protested in front of the SP office in the district.

Following the demand by the opposition parties, Rayagada collector Shashi Bhushan Padhi was transferred to the Health department as the Special Secretary and ITDA Project Administrator Gorachand Gamang has been sent to the District Rural Development Agencies as APD.

The officials were allegedly humiliating the DWO for which he took the extreme step to end his life. Prusty was found hanging from the ceiling on Feb 17.

His wife alleged that he was under mental stress and he was humiliated by the officials at the review meetings. Even he had complained about it before the Collector Shashi Bhushan Padhi, but he did not consider the matter seriously.

On the other hand, the crime branch has begun its probe into the suicide case of Prusty as per the government order.
