Rabi Nanda slapped with Fine Rs 10,000 in False Affidavit Case

Cuttack, Feb 23: Senior BJD leader Rabi Narayan Nanda on Monday was slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000 by the Orissa High Court in a false affidavit case. Earlier, he was served a notice by the court asking him why action will not be taken against him in the case.

The court pulled up Nanda after his close rival and congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati filed a petition alleging that the BJD leader had produced a false affidavit in the court.

Bahinipati alleged that the former Odisha minister had submitted an affidavit in the court seeking delay in the court proceedings on medical ground saying he had complications in lungs. However, he was seen with the chief minister Naveen Patnaik at public meetings in several places during that period.

Nanda allegedly collected false medical certificate on his lungs complications from a gynaecologist.

Seeking his reply on the basis of the petition, the court on Feb 21 had served a showcause notice to Nanda in the case.
