Former Maldives President Nasheed arrested on Terrorism Charges

Male (Maldives), Feb 23: In a big development, former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested on terrorism charges. Following his arrest his supporters staged protests across the nation capital Male demanding his release.

Nasheed is the current opposition leader of the country. He lost the president poll in 2013 to Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, the current president of Maldives.

Nasheed was arrested on Sunday. He is accused of misusing his power and position to arrest the senior judge Mohamed for weeks without trial. He had also ignored the Supreme Courtís order to release the judge.
