Rail Budget 2015-16: Odisha Govt, Opp criticise over Allocation to State

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: The Railway budget for this fiscal year 2015-16 has been presented in Parliament. However, sharp reactions from both ruling BJD and opposition Congress in Odisha were seen over the alleged negligence to the state.

It can be noted that the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has received the allocation of Rs 3112 crore, the highest-ever allocation to the railway division so far. However, the BJD members and Congress expressed their disappointment over the budget and allocation to the state.

While, mixed response were received from the chief minister Naveen Patnaik over the budget, the BJD MPs reacted sharply against the BJP government over the budget presented by Railway minister Suresh Prabhu.

Patnaik is unhappy over the less allocation to the proposed wagon factory project. But, he lauded the efforts of the Centre and money allocated for the neglected railway sections in the state.

While BJD members alleged the Centre of neglecting the state even if it gives the highest revenue to the railway department, the Congress pulled up the Union government for not allocating any speical package in the rail budget and trains for the Nabakalebar festival.

However, it could be analysed that the allocation to the state this fiscal is the highest ever it received in the past. Last year, Odisha was allocated only Rs 1420 crore in the Rail budget 2014-15.

The Railway Ministry has given top priority on the completion of the ongoing and pending projects in the state. The ECoR received Rs 610 crore in the budget for the ongoing projects in Odisha.

In the budget, Prabhu has allocated Rs 195 crore for the Khurda-Bolangir railway line. The state had demanded Rs 300 crore for this project.

Similarly, for the Talcher-Bimlagarh project, Rs 280 crore has been allocated, Rs 36.8 for Haridaspur-Paradip and Rs 75 crore for Angul-Duburi-Sukinda railway line projects in Odisha.

The Balasore-Digha project received an allocation of Rs 2 crore in the budget, Lanjigarh-Junagarh railway line project has been allocated Rs 7.5 crore and Daitari-Bansapani got Rs 12 core.

Prabhu has allocated For Rs 32 crore for Khurda-Baranga, Rs 194 crore for Sambalpur-Talcher, Rs 100 crore for Delang-Puri, Rs 470 crore for Sambalpur-Titilagarh, Rs 513 crore for Bansapani-Daitari-Jakhapura for the doubling and tripling of the rail line in the state.

Besides it, the ministry has allocated Rs 4 crore for Cuttack-Barang line, Rs 16 crore for Rajatgaraha-Baranga line, Bhadrak-Nirgundi Rs 125 crore, Sambalpur-Rengali-Jharsuguda Rs 53.3 crore, Rupsa-Bangariposhi Rs 5 crore, Padapahara-Bansapani Rs 1 crore, Barbil-Badajamada Rs 5 crore, Bimalagada-Dumetra Rs 1 crore and Rourkela-Jharsuguda Rs 17.5 crore in the budget.
