VHP Chief Pravin Togadia gets No Permission to visit Kandhamal

Kandhamal, Feb 27: Fearing any unwanted situations in the sensitive region of Kandhamal, the district administration has refused to give permission to VHP chief Pravin Togadia for his meeting scheduled on Saturday.

The district administration has imposed prohibitory order under section 144 across the district for a week. The security has been beefed up to prevent the law and order situation.

Reacting to the move, the VHP has called for a 12-hour bandh in the district on Feb 28, the day when Togadia was to visit and attend the meeting.

The VHP members alleged the government of doing partiality towards the VHP top leader by not allowing him to enter the district to address the rally. They questioned how the Christian missionaries were allowed in the past to have their meetings in the district.

The government took the precaution hurriedly against the rally, where thousands of VHP workers were expected to join.

The 2008 communal violence in the district was the prime factor that the government did not want to take any further risk. At least 38 people were killed, thousands left their homes, the churches were vandalised after the killing of Saint Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati on the night of Janmastamee. He was assassinated by the Maoists backed by the Church missionaries.
