Odisha Govt wants IIM to be set up in Sambalpur

Bhubaneswar, March 02: Under pressure from the western Odisha people, the state government has recommended the Centre requesting for setting up the proposed IIM in Sambalpur instead of the state capital Bhubaneswar.

In a letter to the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik urged to rethink about the decision to set up the premier institute in western Odisha city.

He wrote that if the Centre will relax its guidelines for the site selection, the state government will recommend Sambalpur as the location where the IIM should be set up.

It can be noted that the Centre has finalised Gothapatna, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar during the visit to Odisha for selecting the site for the IIM. As per the Centre guidelines for setting up the IIM Odisha, the location having all the communication should be close to an airport.

If the government's proposal gets granted by the Centre, it will add cheer to the lots of aspirants and students, who have been demanding IIM in Sambalpur.
