Manmohan Singh summoned as Accused in Coal Block Allocation Scam

New Delhi, March 11: In a big embarrassment to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a special court has summoned him as an accused in the coal block allocation scam. He will have to appear before the court on April 8.

Besides Singh, others including former coal secretaries PC Parakh, Alok Perti, Hindalco's Kumar Mangalam Birla and its officials Shubhendu Amitabh and D Bhattacharya have been summoned in the multi-crore mega scam.

The accused were summoned on charges of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Earlier, Dr Singh was questioned by the top CBI officials on Jan 18 in connection with the allocation of Talabira II block to Hindalco when he was the holding the coal portfolio. He is the first former PM to have been examined in the case.
