Probe ordered into Rajakanika Police Firing

Bhubaneswar, March 11: Under pressure the Odisha government ordered a probe into the police firing on women protesters who ransacked a licenced liquor shop at Namtara village in Rajakanika block of Kendrapara district.

The probe will be conducted by the RDC (Central). This was informed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh in the state assembly today while replying to the opposition members.

The opposition Congress and BJP were demanding an independent inquiry into the police crackdown on the innocent women and kids at the village during a protest in which several people were injured and hospitalised.

There were reports that the women protesters, who ransacked a liquor shop in the village, were beaten up by the police. After the situation went out of control, police resorted lathicharge and firing on the angry protesters last Sunday.
