Bhubaneswar, March 12: In a big relief to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik, the special CBI court gave him a clean chit in the allocation of Talabira coal block II to Hindalco, but put him in the dock stating the letter to then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard was not coincidence.
Today, the court made it clear that Naveen was not involved in the conspiracy of Talabira coal block II allocation in Sundargarh district to Hindalco, owned by the Aditya Birla Group.
However, his role in the illegal allocation could not be ignored, when the court put him in the dock. The court said that the letter in this regard to the then prime minister Dr Singh could not be termed as the "coincidence".
There was allegation against Naveen that he had written a letter to Dr Singh recommending Hindalco for the Talabira coal block II allocation in Sundargarh district in 2005.
Yesterday, the opposition parties Congress and BJP in Odisha had demanded to probe into the role of Naveen in the coal scam after former PM Manmohan Singh was summoned as an accused in the corruption case.
