Protest against Land Bill continues, Opposition marches to Rashtrapati Bhawan

New Delhi, March 17: The opposition Congress on Tuesday marched to the Rashtrapati Bhawan from Parliament in protest of the controversial land acquisition amendment bill.

The leaders of other political parties including SP, TMC, CPIM, CPI also joined the protest march, which was led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was seen active in the stir.

The members will submit a memorandum against the bill to President Pranab Mujherjee.

The security has been tightened as all the VIPs are staging the protest march to the President House. The Delhi police are ready with water cannons to stop the protest if it turns into violence.

All the parties including the allies of BJP have been protesting against the land bill citing it an anti-farmer. The Congress is demanding the government to bring the bill, prepared by the UPA II.

However, the government is firm on its decision. The bill has been cleared in Lok Sabha by voice vote. This will face strong opposition in the Rajya Sabha where BJP is in a minority.
