Mamata orders CBI Probe into WB Nun Gangrape case

News

Kolkata, March 18: The West Bengal government on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the gangrape of an elderly nun, whose condition is critical. It has been five days of the heinous crime in the state; the culprits are still at large.

After facing flak from various quarters of groups and people for no arrest of the accused in the crime, chief minister Mamata Banerjee handed over the case to the CBI.

On the other hand, the National Human Rights Commission also issued a notice to the state government and the missionary organisation to deliver justice to the victim. The 72-year-old nun was gangraped at a convent in Ranaghat of Nadia district on Saturday. This triggered tension in the area.

For the first time, Banerjee handed over the case to the CBI that is probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state. The CM accused the central agency of acting in the direction of the Centre in the case in which most of her MPs and leaders are accused and arrested.
