Janta Express Train Derailment: Death Toll reaches 22, Compensation announced

Rae Bareli, March 20: The death toll increased to 22 and the number of injured was 150 in the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express train derailment today. The Minister of State for Railways announced compensation for the victims.

Manoj Sinha, the minister of state for Railways, announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured and Rs 20,000 for the people with minor injuries. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

According to the latest update, one of the general compartments was crushed, four coaches of the train derailed after the locomotive brakes failed at a town in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh.
