Ruckus in Odisha Assembly over Distress sale of potato

Bhubaneswar, March 23: Both the ruling BJD and opposition members locked the horns with each other in the House today over the distress sale of potato in Odisha. The speaker Niranjan Pujari finally has called for an all party meeting to solve the issue.

The chaotic scene was witnessed in the House when the opposition members raised the issue during zero hour. The House was adjourned twice today.

The members held the government responsible for the distress sale of potato in the state as the wrong policies by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and Markfed created shortage of the vegetable in Odisha.

Because of the faulty policies by both the organisations the harvested potatoes could not be sold in the market and are about to get rotten. Neither the Nafed is buying the potato nor is Markfed doing its work. This will trigger huge shortage of potato in the state and the labour of the farmers will go in vain, the opposition members alleged.

Both the BJD and opposition parties Congress and BJP sought the Speaker's intervention on the issue.
