Manmohan Singh moves SC Challenging Summon in Coal Scam

New Delhi, March 25: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court challenging summon issued to him by a special CBI court in connection with the coal blocks allocation scam.

Apart from him, Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla group, has also moved the apex court against the summons.

Upset Monmohan being backed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and all the senior leaders of the party finally moved to the apex court against summon. The CBI court on March 11 had summoned Dr Singh, former coal secretary PC Parakh, Birla chief and three others in the coal scam asking them to appear before the court on April 8.

Dr Singh is accused of favouring Hindalco owned by Industrialist Birla in the allocation of Talabira II block of Sundargarh district in Odisha when he was holding the coal portfolio.

He is the first former PM, who was interrogated by the CBI in the case.
