Vajpayee conferred Bharat Ratna, PM, Others Present at Ceremony

New Delhi, March 27: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was conferred the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of India. President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to the ailing leader at his residence in the national capital.

This was the biggest moment for the BJP whose leader was given the honour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitely were present at the ceremony at his residence when Vajpayee was conferred the award by the President.

PM Modi conveyed his thanks to President Mukherjee, who came to the residence of Vajpayee breaking the protocol to honour the leader, who is called "Bhism Pitamaha" of Indian politics.

"Privileged to have honoured Vajpayeeji today. He has always been an inspiration, said PM Modi after the ceremony. I pray to god that his life continues to inspire us and guide us", he added.
