Law and Order Situation Not Satisfactory in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, March 27: The crime in Odisha has risen in the year 2014-15 as compared to the cases registered in 2013. According to the White Paper-2014 on law and order situation in the state tabled by the Home department today, as many as 93,657 criminal cases were registered in 2014 while it was 90,184 in 2013.

While 2011 rape cases were registered in the state in 2014, the number was 1832 in 2013. The murder cases fell to 1450 in the previous year against 1454 in 2013.

According to the white paper on crime, the number of dakait cases was 554, loot 1828, 9410 theft in 2014. However, 74% cases have been resolved out of the 76,156 chargesheets.

There was satisfactory development in controlling the Mao menace in the districts like Gajapati, Jajpur, Nuapada, Sundargarg, Deogarh and Sampbalupr in the year 2014. The paper mentioned that 99 Maoists including Nachika Linga surrendered before the police. That was the biggest effort by the police to curb naxal violence in the state.
