Bharat Ratna Conferred on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya

New Delhi, March 30: Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honor of India, was conferred posthumously on the veteran educationist and freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday.

The family of Malaviya accepted the award. Malviya was the founder of the Banaras Hindu University. He was known as a social reformer, and the freedom fighter.

The influential leader was born in an orthodox Hindu Brahmin family at Prayag in 1861. He was a teacher and succeeded to eradicate the system of untouchability. The multifaceted personality was the true Hindu and was talking about the social reforms that were essential to unite the people of India to fight against British rule.

Thanks to BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the prestigious award was given to the legendary figure in Indian History. People of today's era have almost forgotten his name in the course of time.
