Deepika's "My Choice" Video receives Flak

Mumbai, April 02: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and director Homi Adajania's controversial video on women empowerment titled "My Choice" received flak from different quarters. Many feminists might have liked this, but some called it "Unrealistic".

Reacting to the video, veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi described the video as "height of lack of unconsciousness".

As per Indian tradition, woman is addressed as a mother, but there are many objections in it these days. When God wanted to be omnipresent, he created mother. But now, this is an old concept. The video "My Choice" says woman is a body, a commodity. This is unfortunate, he said at attending an event of RSS that celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar on Wednesday in Kolkata.

"People have lost their consciousness and identity by following blindly to the West, which applauds Indian culture and traditions that have scientific reasons too. But we continue to follow the West culture and shun our own traditions and saying that we have our own choice to live", he added.

The video was also crtiticised by Deepika's own industry people. Although, the video was made with good intention, but more needed to be done on women empowerment, said Actress Sonakshi Sinha in her comment.

She said that women empowerment is not always about the choice of having sex and clothes of a woman. This is about employment and strength.

The online video could not draw the attention of all in a big way that was expected. In the video, Deepika talks about freedom of women, her choice, and tells the world not to interfere in her decision. Let her live her life on her own choice and she should take her own decisions.

The video was the combined effort of Deepika and director Homi Adajania to campaign on women empowerment.
