20 Red Sander Smugglers Killed in Andhra Pradesh

Tirupati, April 07: In a major encounter, Andhra Pradesh police gunned down at least 20 red sander smugglers in a dense forest near Tirupati in Chittoor district of the state. 

While 11 were killed in Cheekatikona, nine more died in Eethagunta in a joint operation launched by the police and forest officials against the smugglers/ 

There is a huge demand of Red sanders in China. This costs between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 per kg and a tonne costs around Rs 15-20 lakh.
